Fantastic News: Our EcoChi Co-Founder Sarah Sharp, is a Chichester District Councilor and re-elected onto Chichester City Council.  Congratulations also Heather Barrie and Adrian Moss – to name just two more Eco-Chi Supporters on CDC. Debbie Carter and Poly Gaskin are joining our City Council.  Altogether a huge turnaround in our local politics.

Sarah Sharp has a new Petition underway to focus all three Councils towards safer pavements:

There is outrage that the City’s Cycle Racks are being cut off – when they had decades more serviceable life – replaced by bolted down Stainless Steel Racks, which are so obviously far less secure: Cost approx £32,000 +  £19,000 removal and disposal of the old ones and fitting new. A photograph shared to Friends of Centurion Way shows a fitter attempting to bolt one onto a manhole cover – yes honestly! Poor chap given an impossible task! Those new cycle Racks have NOT been fitted and removed off-site (who knows when to be fitted?).

With thanks to Ruth Keeley for the photo:

Sarah suggests we write to the clerk@chichestercity.gov.uk so that the emails can be forwarded to the new Chair of Finance or Mayor.  Maybe point out a few suggestions where City Council Funds could better be directed.

Sunday 5th and Bank Holiday 6th May:

THE GOOD LIFE: REVIVE, RECYCLE, RESTORE  Spring Event at The Weald and Downland Living Museum. Many of us will be there helping.

Wednesday 8th and again on 15th May:  We are manning the Market stall again.

If you are interested in helping please let us know, …. Wednesdays in North Street, Chichester. 2 or 3 hour slots – whatever fits in – join the list of volunteers.

Saturday 11th May:  2:30 to 4:30 p.m. “The Corbyn Effect” with Author Mark Perryman

At The New Park Centre, Chichester, PO19 7XY.   The invite is from Jane Towers, who writes “followed by discussion. Not only of interest to Labour supporters I’m sure. Details on our Constituency website. Well done to Greens for your successes”.  https://www.facebook.com/events/513529622511108/

Saturday  11th May: a full day event – approximate timings:10am until 5pm.  Brighton

Friends of the Earth believes that confident speaking skills are an essential part of campaigning and in order to support SCATE we have organised this training day to increase your confidence and ability to speak clearly and effectively.

We have secured a professional trainer – Walter Blackburn – to run this course. Brenda has worked with him before and had excellent feedback. You can check out  Walter’s website here.

This is a great opportunity to make sure that we are presenting ourselves and our campaigns in the best way, with confidence and making the absolute most of every speaking opportunity we get.

The training usually costs around £300 a head (!) but we have managed to make this completely free for attendees. This means numbers are very limited and full commitment to be able to attend on the day is required.

The aim is to have a spread across the groups to ensure we have fantastic public speakers everywhere! Please can you consider who in your group would benefit most from this. Do put forward more than one person if you feel that they will be able to use the training to deliver talks or arrange meetings with decision makers as part of your group’s work..

Register your interest in attending the event ASAP by emailing Brenda directly on brenda.pollack@foe.co.uk  We will then let you know if you have a place on the course once we’ve assessed levels of interest from different areas.
