Non Violent Direct Action Training
Sat, 7 September, 1:30pm – 4:30pm
Friends Meeting House, Priory Road, Chichester, PO19 1NX (map)
Life as we know it is falling apart. Extreme weather events and mass species extinction cover the globe. The government has failed to implement radical change and environmental organisations have failed to take sufficient action.
It's time to rebel.
Join the Extinction Rebellion for our introduction to non-violent direct action, both theory and practice. In this workshop you will learn about the UK legal system, how to chat to police/public during actions, aspects of burnout and regenerative culture, and quick decision-making, as well as going through action essentials and practice of non-violent techniques.
Entry is free, but please bring along a donation, if you can, for venue hire costs.

7:30 pm: Tasting my Future - a film for Peace Day

7:30 pm: Tasting my Future - a film for Peace Day

September 21, 2019

at the Quaker Meeting House, Priory Road, Chichester.

From the Cinema at New Park:

Audience Award Winner for the Best Documentary in the 24th Chichester International film Festival. Sylvie Collier’s very timely documentary features women who fled conflict in their home countries and wound up in Brighton seeking safety.

Behind them are wars, persecution and conflict. Ahead is a struggle to rebuild their lives in the UK. Women far from home find a common language - the language of food. From Syria, Iraq, Ethiopia, Kurdistan, Turkey and Egypt women experienced violence that forced them to flee their countries for survival. Some live on their nerves, awaiting decisions on asylum.

Shot around the City of Brighton & Hove, the film brings together women from different backgrounds, beliefs and national languages. What they all can share is a tradition of cooking. “When you are removed from your country you can communicate with people through food, no matter what culture you come from,” says Reem from Iraq. Women gather in kitchens to prepare and cook an international feast. They cross cultural boundaries to share traditional dishes at a noisy and exuberant party, a feast like no other.

12:30 pm: CANCELLED Chichester Car Free Day - South Street

12:30 pm: CANCELLED Chichester Car Free Day - South Street

September 22, 2019

The event highlights the numerous benefits of going car-free to citizens—including reduced air pollution and the promotion of walking and cycling in a safer environment.

The World Carfree Network says that the World Car-Free Day can be a showcase for just how our cities might look like, feel like, and sound like without car... 365 days a year.

Car-free days are an opportunity for cities to highlight how congested roads can be used in different ways. From races for alternative-energy powered vehicles in Budapest, to horse-riding in São Paulo, to street picnics in Vienna, to running in Jakarta, cities and the people who live in them are stressing the alternatives to polluting vehicles on this important day.
